Jaylynn Calloway writes contemporary speculative fiction inspired by curious places, old stories, and the questions that begin with what if?

Travel has been part of her life for nearly twenty years, taking her from the Scottish Highlands and the ruins of Ephesus to Icelandic lava fields, ancient sites in Peru, and places throughout Europe and North America. Most of those journeys began solo—joining a group of strangers somewhere along the way—and taught her that sometimes the only way to stop saying someday is simply to go.

She has always been drawn to the things people notice at the edges: an unexpected detail in a landscape, a story attached to an old place, a historical map that includes an island that isn't supposed to be there. Photography, history, folklore, and the occasional research rabbit hole all find their way into her creative life.

Her current novel in progress, The Unaccounted World, grew from many of those same interests: travel, unfamiliar places, old stories, and the possibility that the world may still contain things we don't entirely understand.
